If you don't like it, send it back!
Today I will share a lesson I learned the hard way, to be of benefit to some of you. Nothing we have not heard before nor already experienced in one form or another, but I experienced a nuanced, subtle way of being thrown off my horse.
On the life long journey of learning: “Tend to your frequency.”
Sometimes people think they are helping us by imposing their belief system on us. Sometimes that person is someone we cherish and/or look up to and they, so far, have always wished us well. So we are in confidence and welcoming their input. We are not at all on guard.
So, when they want to change us or what we do, we at first try to accommodate, and truly re-assess to give them the benefit of the doubt. They may be right? But when their “guidance” creates confusion, wavering that leads to fear because we got thrown off our center, and that becomes our new modus operandi, we must immediately pause and search for the root cause of the disruption. If their warning or request is impossible for us to follow because it is not aligned with our truth, we get hurt and loose our power. We are then no longer on our own vibration and lose energy… to the other. They sap our chi (Qi), life force and we feel powerless and/or even fatigued.
If, after the feedback or reflection from such a revered, respected person, we lose our confidence, our inner light, sun, our compass, we feel weak, something is not right, we must realize that the advice was not warranted for and decide to reject it. We then can regain our balance, reconnect with who we are by positioning ourSelf respectfully and clearly vis a vis the person. Most importantly, however, upon recognizing that the opinion or judgment was not welcomed, we must energetically send it back to where it came from.
That is one way people steal our energy! Let’s remember that! So important!
I was vulnerable because it was my birthday and I was in a receiving mode. Thank you to the many family and friends who wished me a Happy Birthday :-) including the one who threw me under the bus with their well intended “doctrine”. Because I was so open and because this person is someone I love very much, their “advice”, more like their “teachings” derailed me from my core.
My weakness, in seeking their approval, was my own demise. My fault was my looking to be valued by this cherished person I have known for 35 years! My mistake was my attachment to an outcome, in this case: wanting my work to be appreciated. Oh well, I learned my lesson but it took me 2 days of sidetrack before I could figure out the origin of my pain. I currently have many other sources of stress, so at first, I blamed all the other reasons and accepted my feeling defeated as something I had to endure… for the time being… when in truth, the real cause of my feeling sad was that I was attacked at the heart and did not recognize it as such from the get go.
We all have our weak spots and life takes care of making us stronger by throwing a curve ball once in a while, whether we like it or not, and often, when it is the least expected, of course! Same thing as ‘reverse culture shock’, which I first heard of, as a concept, in graduate school. We handle travels to difficult regions of the world well because we mentally, emotionally and physically prepared but we get “nipped in the bud” when we come back to our routine. We expected to resume our life upon returning without needing adjustments…
The perfect storm happened because the threat came
from someone I love and respect
at a time when I was expecting to receive well wishes (on my birthday)
which corresponded with a mighty cosmic doorway, the powerful new moon I mentioned in my previous post.
while in a general period of vulnerability due to high stress and uncertainty in my life.
“Attend to our own resonance” is of upmost importance all the time and especially when we experience such occurrences. In more current language, we “mind our own business”. In spiritual practice, we may visualize ourSelves protected in a bubble of vibrant white light, breathe in brilliant rays of sunshine, see it charging all the cells of our body, fill our heart with radiant solar energy, root ourselves on supportive, benevolent Mother Earth and feel solid and free, here and now.
Thank you. I choose to smile. All my love, Corinne Cévaër-Corey
